Full course description
This 4 week online course is an introduction to game-based learning and is specifically designed for educators. Participants will learn about the benefits of game-based learning and develop strategies to incorporate game-based learning in their classrooms and curriculum. The course features top experts in the field, like Victoria Van Voorhis, Jesse Schell, and Dan White. The course is taught by renowned game-based learning expert Texas A&M University Professor André Thomas.
The specific learning outcomes for the course are:
- Describe what game-based learning is and how it benefits students.
- Differentiate and describe the difference between play and games.
- Differentiate game-based learning from gamification.
- Evaluate and analyze effective learning games.
- Identify and create effective learning objectives for learning games.
- Describe how to incorporate games into your curriculum.
Included in the course are 3 award winning high-end commercial learning games for participants to play. Participants will gain access to a private community of educators to share their experiences and help each other.
There are weekly live sessions and labs that participants will be able to join.
The average time per week participants should allocate to the course is 4 hours.
After successful completion of the course participants will receive a certificate and 25 professional development or 2.5 CEU credits.
